A Hunger Games Theory: Lucy Gray’s Future

                                                A Hunger Games Theory

The Hunger Games series is possibly one of the most well-known series. Even if you haven’t read it, you’ve at least heard of some of the characters. With that being said, there are spoilers ahead, so if you don’t want to hear about Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I would suggest that you should stop reading. Anyway, there is a lot of controversy about what happened to Lucy Gray. Since we heard her scream when Coriolanus shot her some people think she died. But that can’t be true because of the footsteps at the end of the movie. Now, if you were Lucy Gray and your enemy was Snow, you wouldn’t want to be yourself where the he could still find you. You would want to switch identities. So, the main theory is that President Coin is Lucy Gray. But the only evidence that backs that theory up is that Lucy Gray wants to get back at Snow and Coin makes Katniss do a lot of things Lucy Gray does. So, I propose a new theory. Lucy Gray is Greasy Sae. Greasy Sae is a very minor role. She has little to no purpose in the book and in the movie, she just gives Katniss the Mockingjay pin. Now, Greasy Sae is a character they could’ve just left out and everyone would be fine. But instead of the mayor’s daughter giving Katniss the Mockingjay pin they switch it to Greasy Sae. Now why exactly would they do that? Because Greasy Sae has some unknown sort of significance. Perhaps being Lucy Gray! But that’s not all the evidence I have. We know that Snow and Lucy Gray are about the same age. So, when they grow up, they should be close to the same age. President Snow is somewhere around 74 and Greasy Sae is around 73. The age is correct, so why can’t the theory be? She also only has one eye. This could be because when Snow shot at her he shot her eyeball, removing it. And one last thing, Greasy Sae rhymes with Lucy Gray. It takes a lot of thought to come up with a new name for yourself, but Lucy Gray probably just got it over with by picking a name that rhymes. So, if you’re wondering who Lucy Gray is, the answer is Greasy Sae.

Greasy Sae is a minor but memorable character in “The Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins. She is an elderly woman from District 12 who works as a vendor in the Hob, the black market of the district. Known for her resourcefulness and resilience, she often trades wild game and other goods with Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist. Sae’s nickname “Greasy” stems from her penchant for cooking and selling various stews, made from whatever ingredients she can scavenge, including less appetizing parts of animals. Despite her rough exterior and seemingly unsavory culinary methods, she represents the gritty determination and survival spirit prevalent among the residents of District 12.

Lucy Gray Baird and Greasy Sae, though from different eras in “The Hunger Games” series, share several notable similarities that highlight their roles in the harsh world of Panem. Both characters are resourceful and resilient women who navigate the oppressive conditions of their respective times with ingenuity and strength.

Lucy Gray, the charismatic singer and victor of the 10th Hunger Games in “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” uses her charm, wit, and musical talent to survive and thrive. Similarly, Greasy Sae relies on her culinary skills and shrewdness in trading to make a living in the economically deprived District 12. Both characters exhibit a profound understanding of their environments, utilizing what little they have to carve out a space for themselves and help others around them.

Moreover, they both play supportive roles to the protagonists of their stories. Lucy Gray forms a complex relationship with Coriolanus Snow, influencing his character development, while Greasy Sae serves as a consistent, albeit minor, support figure for Katniss Everdeen, offering food and practical wisdom. Despite the differences in their circumstances and narrative significance, Lucy Gray and Greasy Sae embody the enduring spirit of survival and the importance of community in the face of adversity.
